This paper explores a learning effect of "Standard English" in the new English education curriculum (new EFL program) of Niigata University. In this program, new students take "Standard English" based on the entrance examination results etc, in the first semester. Then, the students take TOEIC at the last of that semester. Investigating the relation between the results of the National Center Test for University Entrance Examinations (NCT), "Standard English", and TOEIC showed the following findings; Two thousand one hundred ninety nine new students took TOEIC in fiscal year 2005. The average TOEIC score in Niigata University whole examinees was 427.8 points. This score was almost the same as the average score of the whole Japan's university...
